Geriatrics – Care of the Elderly
In this 5-week course, we’ll explore common diseases and health concerns encountered in the elderly population from the perspective of the homeopathic practitioner; looking at both homeopathic and aphorism 4/74-77 -based interventions.
The elderly population is making an increasing dent on healthcare needs in North America and about the world, as the “baby-boomer” generation matures – We’re Here, We’re Over the Hill, get used to us! Will is proud to include himself among those “we.” In 2050, the population aged 65 and over is projected to be 83.7 million, almost double its estimated population of 43.1 million in 2012.
The elderly population presents particular issues related to acute and chronic dynamic diseases, as well as medicinal disease (the average number of prescription drugs taken by the elderly population ranges from 8-13, with frequent polypharmacy-related medical problems seen in this population), and the accumulated effects of lifestyle “choices” -“violations of the laws of nature.”
During the course of this course, Will will celebrate his 65th birthday and will be able to add his first-hand experiences to those of his many patient-teachers over the years ;^)
All richly illustrated with cases from Will’s clinical experience & the classical literature.
5 weeks, Wednesday evenings 5-7pm US Pacific standard time, March 9, 23, 30, April 6, 13 (Will turns 65 on March 22nd, which will provide him with more direct personal experience on the topic as this course progresses ;^) ); All sessions will be recorded and posted as streaming video for review, and for asynchronous / self-paced participation following the live presentations.
